Day 53: Pleased

Quite pleased with himself, eh? You can see Lily in her bed down in the corner. She gets down low and tries to hide, but he always finds her. When he gets her to meow he thinks it's the funniest thing ever. He had dove over her and jumped back to laugh when I grabbed this photo today.

And, he's still not sleeping in the crib.
I've tried the Ferber thing for the last few nights and days, but apparently he is not having it. After two nights of hardly any sleep (for both of us) and him refusing his crib naps altogether, I've got to try something else. Technically you're supposed to do it for 7 days, but he's getting worse instead of showing improvement and we're on day 3+. I think part of our problem is that we're going through some separation anxiety during the day and it's now carrying over to sleep. He can start to drift of with me standing there, but if I even shift my arm he wigs out. Walking away equals him standing right up and wailing until I come back, whether it is 1 minute or 10.  At this point.....I. Need. Sleep.   Ugh.

Day 52: Longing

Poor Max. You know all he's thinking is, "if I could only reach that door handle...".

Day 51: FINALLY

Here I am, confidently posting this from my NEW iMac!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seriously been waiting to order this thing for months and months. My main computer was bought before we came to Denver, so in 2006. It's a dinosaur! Once I was ready to buy this I realized a new version was on its way in the summer. That day came and went without a reveal and we still don't know when it will come. After talking it out with Carl I realized the current version had everything I wanted and there was no reason to wait and see. I am so happy I pulled the trigger! It came late yesterday and I more than jumped right in. This is like Christmas times a million billion trillion!!!

All 27 inches of this baby is beautiful. I <3 her.

Day 50: More rain...at the zoo

Monday morning I wanted to head to the zoo, but heard it may rain. The forecast app said 30% chance so I gave it a go. Well.....let's try 100% chance. We got about 20 dry minutes and then waited and got drenched for the other 100 minutes. Carson was mostly just bummed that he couldn't ride the train. It was kind of nice to go out in the rain as an adult though. I can't remember the last time I embraced it!

IMG_8055 web

We ate lunch under this awning and eventually had to make a run for it. Of course we had made it almost to the back by the time the rain started!
AND...I think this is his go-to pose! haha
Rained out.
Getting drenched at the zoo. So much for 30% chance of rain.

Day 49: Spiderman

Carl left early Sunday morning before Max and I were up to take Carson to see Spiderman. I had to go to the store at the same time, which is right across from the theater. I pulled in to see if they were waiting outside and sure enough, there they were. I asked Carson to smile, but he said it was too bright. LOL

Seeing Spiderman with Daddy. "Mommy, it's too bright!"

Unfortunately Carson had a few accidents before the movie even started. Poor kid was sick all that day. Carl had to buy him undies before I got there and I had to buy him a whole new outfit before the movie too. Carl was a tad embarrassed, but handled it like a champ!

Day 48: Water crossing!

Apparently one of the highlights of four-wheeling that I'm not privy to is going through "water crossings". It rained insanely hard on Saturday just as we were leaving to get dinner. As we got down toward Southlands we realized everyone was stopping and soon found out why. Carson was  so excited to go through it and now keeps asking me if I remember the flash flood (which he got from the weather warnings on TV).

Early morning jazzercise. Go baby!

Day 47: Daddy's arms

Daddy is always comfortable. Max couldn't wait until bedtime on Friday night.
(I'm super behind on posting these so here they come!)

Day 46: One year dr appt + STEPS!

Yesterday we ventured off to Max's one year check-up. He's still healthy as ever and starting to even out in his body a little. Carson had to come along for the first time, which was...frustrating. He wouldn't sit still for even a second so I could talk to the doctor. When does preschool start again?!?!?

IMG_8030 web

His stats were:
Weight - 23lb 14oz, 65%
Height - 31.75 inches, 88%

He seems like such a long kid in person! His weight has slowed down since he became mobile though. The doctor put his weight on the breastfed chart and he was 85% for weight on that one still.
He did good with shots this time and we didn't have any reactions, unlike his 4 month round. I'm still nervous after that experience. We had a good cuddle nap so he could sleep after we came home.
Here's to a big nap after today's shots.

THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!.............
Last night I was out front with Carson while he played. Carl screamed out the door that Max was walking and I didn't believe him. Technically it was just with Mr. Lion, but he took off for the first time ever and kept going and going. By the time he was done his cheeks were bright red, he was sweaty and drank a whole sippy of water. LOL Normally he pushes it too far, won't take steps and falls over. Carl got a video before he came out to get me because he was so shocked that it happened out of nowhere.

Day 45: Independence Day

Happy 4th of July!

Day 44: Too cool for school

On Tuesday we made a stop in Baby Gap because both the boys desperately needed shorts. Even though Max was born two months in the year past Carson, he is much bigger than Carson was at this point. None of the shorts fit him! I can only describe it like stuffing a big pillow in a small pillowcase. And Carson is so skinny in the waist that he can still fit in his 2T ans 3T ones, but he's super tall so they are all embarrassingly short on him. Either way, we now have clothes that fit them...

Carson is so much like his father. He is really sensitive to the sun and always has a few pairs of sunglasses. We found these ones while shopping and he claimed them immediately. Seriously, I couldn't say no to this. He put them up on his head and pranced around the store like he knew how cool he was. As we walked out the door I was so happy I packed my camera that day. The posing is 100% him.

Day 43: Good night

He may be crazy, but at least he sleeps all night long. It feels good to have him tucked in after long days.

Day 42: Stow away

All weekend long Great Grandma Stonehocker kept telling Carson she was going to take him home with her back to Utah. I thought it was obvious she was kidding. To Carson, not so much. Sunday morning when they were getting packed up Carson went right up to pack up too. He literally stuffed his book bag with pants (no shirts or anything else) and told us we could come get him in 25 days. No amount of logical reasoning about what he'd be missing out there would get through to him. All he knew was that Grandma has a piano. Period. End of story.

Poor kid got over it pretty quickly at least.

IMG_7991 web

I am adding this way late. I can't believe I totally forgot this day was our anniversary! I didn't forget on the day, but when I was posting pics I did. Oops!
Grandma Susan was so nice and watched both boys so we could go out alone. This was the first no-kid outing we've had since Max was born!  We went to lunch and a movie. Not too crazy, but nice either way. We even got a drink before the movie just because we could!
First time out without kids in over a year!! #anniversaryNo sippies in sight.

Day 41: With Grandpa

I think Carson's favorite part of Grandpa coming to visit is how much time they spend together in the front yard. Grandpa goes out there to smoke all the time so Carson takes advantage of a grown up with him whenever he can. On Saturday morning I came down to look for Carson and found this when I peeked through the blinds. So cute!

Pre-nap:
Pick me up!!

And crashed on me:
To the crib we go.
Lots of attention today with Tina of family visiting. He has now crashed.

Max: One year old

This is the most bittersweet post of the year. Our baby is so close to being a toddler. We had such a good time all day for his birthday and went out for a big cake smash after dinner. Those photos are awesome! and are coming very soon.....
IMG_7705 web

With all the excitement on his birthday morning I completely forgot to take his photo like this. I didn't take it until late in the day and he wanted NOTHING to do with it. I can't believe I ended up with this one. He's never been this crazy for the photos! He was attacking the bear and trying to dive right off, hence the crazy hair.

He is walking all around the couches and tables and toys. He has tried to get up on his hands and feet a few times, but no standing unassisted yet. And he sure seems to be trying to talk. He makes lots of new sounds, but actual words are still mama, dada and bop (which I think means brother and/or ball). He has discovered airplanes and plays so much by himself now. I have to pull all the blinds half-way up, create a perimeter around the couch side tables from drinks etc. and I'm having to re-babyproof the office. The kid is an incredible eater too. Shocker, right?
This was 7/3/12 (I'm posting the weekend's pics late!)
Get dat booty in da air.

But the biggest change this month is his mega attitude! It was like overnight a few weeks ago he started growling, hitting and throwing. I am constantly blocking my face from him because he hauls off and whacks me. We call him Evil Baby now. We're going to the pediatrician tomorrow so we'll make sure this is a normal phase. I sure don't remember it specifically with Carson.

Here is another I found from last Wednesday that Carson asked to take. He is good!

Day 40: Summer Birth-Days

On Thursday I bought the boys an inflatable pool because Carson has been spending so much time out back. On Friday we stayed home even though it was Max's birthday because my dad and grandparents had just gotten into town. Carl and my mom still had to work so we just celebrated at night.
Carson has made a new friend next door and she came over to swim with him. I thought they would be timid because the hose water is so insanely cold, but they all loved it. Even Max didn't flinch. He was in there with them having a blast for so long and then we let him crawl around in the buff.

I'd say for a normal day home it was a pretty fun birthday!

Day 39: Disappearing act

Well, I know what my day 39 photo was, but that seriously is somehow not on my cards. I must have grabbed the wrong one to clear for Friday's festivities. Thursday night my dad and grandparents arrived at our house for a weekend visit. It was so much fun having everyone together for Max's birthday! The photo I took was of Carson jumping in his grandpa's arms as he got out of the truck, but we'll just have to imagine what it looked like. Oh well!!! The only photo I now have of the day is one of Carson napping from my phone.

Day 38: CEO or Baby?

Try to hate on this comb-over. I dare you. I freaking love it. Carl gives me crap about not cutting it yet, but I think it's adorable like this. It is super cute in a little faux hawk too.

IMG_7585 web

It has been so incredibly hot that we've been finding ways to play inside. I let Carson run at Chick-fil-A today while Max and I tried to do some work. Max can be quite distracting though...

On Monday he cut the top tooth we've been waiting and waiting for, then that same day cut the one under it on bottom that I wasn't expecting. Then Tuesday morning he cut a molar! I knew that his back gums were really swollen, but I didn't expect the molar so soon. The baby book says it is right on time though.

Day 35: Nuzzled

After a busy day on Saturday we hung out around the house on Sunday. We typically watch a movie during nap time on Sundays and Carl loves getting to snuggle with Max during this time. At one point he started to wake up and then curled back up asleep like this. I had to run for the camera! He was so nuzzled into Daddy.
IMG_7485 web

It has been unbearably hot here. We were just saying that we are missing the afternoon rain when it started raining. Carson stripped off his shirt and went out frolicking. He soon found out that even if it's hot outside, the rain is verrrry cold!
