Weekend with family

Carl's step-dad and little brother came out to visit us this weekend from Utah. They just wanted to relax and have a mini vacation so we didn't do anything too crazy. We wanted to take a drive on Friday and kept hearing how great it is to drive up to Mt. Evans which is above Idaho Springs in the Rocky Mountains. We stopped in Idaho Springs for lunch at a restaurant that serves mostly buffalo, somehow none of us ended up eating any and Carson got 5/6ths of his lunch on the floor...

Then we made our way all the way up the long and winding road to this point which is Summit Lake. We were about 13,000 feet in elevation here. Isn't it gorgeous?????

And being the really smart and well-traveled girl I am (note the sarcasm), I took great care in bringing warm gear for everyone. Not. By the time we got to the top at over 14,000 feet in the middle of July it was only 55 degrees! I hadn't packed a single extra jacket, blanket, gloves, hat, or anything for any of us! We ended up wrapping my nursing cover around Carson for a little while because the wind was blowing so hard and we were freezing. Nice look with the crooked glasses, huh? :)

When we parked at the top our nav said we were at 14,144 feet. That was a really fun feature to have in the Jeep on the long climb up.

You could see out SO far.

The family portrait.......This ended up being the only shot where my hair wasn't standing straight in the air from the wind. Oh well, we aren't known for being a photogenic family.

The boys:
Carl, Carson, Uncle Jordan, and Grandpa Dave
(And somehow Jordan just turned 16 and got his license....WHAT?)

There are big horned sheep everywhere up where all the people are too. They seem pretty friendly, but I wasn't staying around long enough to find out.

This one had a baby when we were driving out. So sweet!

The rest of the weekend was pretty mellow. We took Dave to Jack in the Box for tacos since there isn't one in Utah. Apparently JITB has a lot of nostalgia with the generation before us. We watched a few movies, ate way too much candy and food and overall had a great time spending time with everyone!

Carson's first molar finally broke through about a week ago and he has been much more pleasant. Now we just have 3 more to go in the very near future. Wish us luck!
